Today's university students are tomorrow's political and industry leaders – this fact is undisputed. As our global society is facing ever greater challenges, incorporating university students in forums and organizations that encourages their direct participation and involvement with such issues early on, is crucial to lay the necessary groundwork needed for their leadership roles in the future.

The Chemnitz University of Technology is dedicated to preparing its student body with the skills, knowledge and resources necessary to compete and succeed in global leadership. A modern university is committed to the direct partnership between our university, industry, politics and society, as well as to providing practise-oriented interdisciplinary degree programs for our students. The Chemnitz University of Technology also places great emphasis on international cooperation for exchange and practical, hands-on involvement in international affairs.

One example of this is our participation in the Academic Consortium 21 (AC 21). As an executive member of AC 21 we have the honour of hosting this year's AC 21 Student World Forum (SWF) from June 22 - 27, 2009 in Chemnitz. The idea of the Student World Forum is new and innovative. The Forum serves as a platform for the international student participants to share experience and opinions, to discuss new ideas and initiatives related to future-oriented topics and to establish new international friendships and a global mindset. After Nagoya 2005 and Paris 2007, we are proud to announce the Chemnitz University of Technology as the first German university to host the SWF.

The title of the 3rd Students World Forum is "Production of the 21st Century". In the face of global warming, the balance of economic growth and the protection of the environment through innovative ideas will be one of the essential challenges for the new generation. It is a topic which concerns all nations and all people and we look forward to a dynamic exchange of ideas and possible solutions in the framework of workshops, panel discussions and excursions together with representatives of industry and academia.

The conference also offers a diversified cultural program including guided sightseeing tours through Chemnitz and its beautiful surroundings, as well as the opportunity to attend the 12th University Ball. Beyond the organized events will also remain enough leisure time to discover Chemnitz culture and nightlife on one's own.

We look forward to welcoming student participants from across the globe to the 3rd Students World Forum, to Chemnitz and to the Chemnitz University of Technology in June, 2009!
