Industrial-shaped city
Chemnitz is situated at the heart of the enlarged European Union. With 250000 people living in Chemnitz and another 1.3 million living in the surrounding, Chemnitz is the third-largest city in Saxony.
This dynamic technology centre is one of the leading industrial locations in Eastern Germany with the main focus on the high-tech sector, mechanical engineering and the motor industry. Important industrial companies such as Siemens, IBM and Volkswagen are located here.
Cultural variety
Residents and visitors appreciate the high quality of life in the city, which is expressed by the newly-shaped city centre. The department stores and shopping malls designed by internationally renowned architects invite people to spend time wandering around the shops.
