Thema: Solving numerically Maxwell's equations: The Singular Complement Method.

The Lagrange P1 Finite Element method has been used for solving numerically a wide range of problems. In this talk, we apply this discretization technique to the static or time-dependent Maxwell equations. It is shown that if one uses this technique without precaution, the numerical simulation fails. A cure to this problem is to add to the space of FE some well chosen test functions, thus leading to the Singular Complement Method. The SCM is presented in some detail, together with an analysis of its accuracy. Several numerical examples are shown, including the computation of the motion of charged particles, that is the solution of a coupled Vlasov-Maxwell system of equations.

Das Seminar wird von Prof. Meyer geleitet. Interessenten sind herzlich eingeladen.
