Institute of Physics

Studying at the Institut of Physics

One of the main tasks of the institute is the representation of physics in teaching. This includes training in the consecutive physics course of study as well as the new interdisciplinary Bachelor and Master programs in Computational Science, which is offered in cooperation with the faculties of computer science, mathematics and engineering and the Institute of Chemistry.

Interdisciplinarity is also being promoted in the consecutive physics course. Modules from the philosophical and the economics department may also be visited in addition to numerous scientific and technical ones.

The excellent student-to-teacher ratio and the organization of students in exercise groups offer the chance of building early contacts with lecturers and professors as well as fellow students. This creates a climate, that enables a quality education, which leads quickly and efficiently to a degree. The technical equipment of the institute, which consists of modern facilities in UHV technology, laser and analysis technology, powerful electron microscopy and access to the Chemnitz High performance Linux Cluster (CHiC) as well as an own computer pool for students, contributes to the quality of the studies at our institution.

Contacts and partnerships with other universities and physical faculties, for example in the USA, UK and Eastern Europe offer the possibility of studying abroad.

The offer is completed by the Center for Foreign Languages, which allows to obtain certificates in subject-specific language courses.

Benefits of studying in Chemnitz are the good living conditions with relatively low living costs and low rents as well as short distances, since a large part of the central institutions as well as the dormitories are on the campus. In many buildings of the University users have wireless access to the campus network, to which the dormitories are also connected.
