Objectives

In the Master’s Degree Programme attention is paid to both theoretical and methodological skills enabling students to plan and to conduct a qualitative empirical research project. Students will learn how to implement theoretical concepts form the following fields of research:

  • historical and contemporary perspectives on cultural exchange, including interpersonal and intergroup conflicts, and representations of violence;
  • globalisation and glocalisation;
  • (transnational) migration;
  • intercultural communication in various fields, such as business cooperation, political negotiation, institutional communication, e.g. in health-care institutions, and interactions in tourism;
  • description and explanation of intercultural learning processes;
  • expatriation and long-term stays abroad;
  • personal and collective (cultural) identities.

Students are expected to graduate within 2 years. The modes of study and teaching methods vary and alternate. Studies include a significant amount of contact teaching (lectures, semi-nars, workshops, colloquia etc.) for which students are required to be present. Besides this, students need to study independently for exams and essays as well as do group work, an ex-cursion, and a research internship seminar (including presentations of research findings to public audience).
