Sacajawea (or Sacagawea)

  • born 1784 in Lemhi Valley
  • grew up at Shoshone tribe
  • kidnapped when child and sold to Mandans
  • traded to Touissant Charbonneau
  • only woman and interpreter for Lewis and Clark expedition she and Charbonneau left expedition when reaching Mandan villages on the way back
  • death either December 20, 1812 at Fort Summer (one of Charbonneaus two wives died)
  • or April 9, 1884 on Shoshone Reservat in Wyomings River Valley (data about a woman called Sacagawea, who spoke fluent French and had knowledge about the expedition)
