The Faculty of Humanities has developed into a respected research centre with first-class academic staff. It brings a new dimension to the technicallyoriented tradition of the university, and continues the innovative approach to education and research which is evident throughout CUT. Many of the subjects taught in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences play an important role in the Computer Science and Engineering programmes. With a wide range of subjects available, many programmes include the opportunity to undertake work placements, study exchanges or research projects. A high percentage of these are on an international basis, since internationally-renowned CUT professors have established a number of research and study exchanges with institutions within Europe and worldwide.
One of the most recent examples of the high level of internationalisation at the Faculty of Humanities is the foundation of the Saxon- Czech Institute for Higher Education (Sächsisch- Tschechisches Hochschulzentrum - STHZ) in 2003. The STHZ is co-financed with resources from the European Union. The STHZ facilitates increased scientific interaction between Saxon and Czech universities in the border region.
At the moment, the following sub-projects are being realised together with seven Czech universities under the auspices of a special university partnership scheme: student workshops, information seminars for business start-ups, trainee exchanges, excursions, alumni activities.
