Until january 31st 2012 Univ. Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Dr.-Ing. Birgit Spanner-Ulmer was head of the department. In February 2012, she was appointed to a new position outside Chemnitz University of Technology.

Dr. rer. pol. Angelika Bullinger-Hoffmann will fill the position as interim head of the department.
