Abstract:
We present an approach to the finite section method for so called band-dominated operators on $L^\infty(R^n)$. These are the elements of an algebra generated by multiplication and shift operators. Here, the multiplication operators under consideration do not need to have limits at infinity. One of our main tools are so called limit operators.
