Advanced Platforms for Automotive Systems

ECUs (Electronic Control Unit) are highly networked embedded systems that implement a variety of functions in the vehicle. Both the number of controllers and the networking between them are increasing steadily in modern vehicles. In order to master this complexity specific architectures development methodologies and processes are used. This lecture offers a basic introduction to the development of automotive ECUs. Based on the V-model, the relevant processes, methods and technologies will be highlighted. Main topics of this course are:

  • Specification methods
  • Technical design of ECUs
  • System architecture
  • Automotive communication buses such a CAN and FlexRay
  • AUTOSAR
  • Test and validation methods such as HIL, SIL, etc.
