The chair "Materials and Reliability of Microsystems" has been held by Bernhard Wunderle since July 2009.
The professorship is responsible for the scientific education in the field of material science for students of electrical engineering and microelectronics and focuses on the reliability assessment and prediction for micro and nano systems for graduate students, including the new international master's program in micro and nano systems.
Reliability as a scientific discipline is concerned with the analysis, assessment and prediction of the lifetime of microelectronic systems
(e.g. of interconnects and interfaces of standard and advanced packages, BEOL-layers, MEMS, 3D- architectures, SIP, etc).
The chair is researching on the following fields of competence:
- Material characterisation
- Experimental analytics
The chair cultivates a close collaboration between the Fraunhofer ENAS and Fraunhofer IZM.
Prof. Wunderle is a member of the European Centre for Micro and Nanoreliability (EUCEMAN)
and participates in a joint initiative with Fraunhofer ENAS and industrial partners to establish a keylab for microreliability
