Who was Julius Adolph Stöckhardt?

Julius Adolph Stöckhardt

Julius Adolph Stöckhardt was the second teacher ("professor") at the preceding institution of the Royal Vocational School (Royal Mercantile College) founded on Mai 2nd 1836 in Chemnitz. He is the autor of the seminal textbook "Schule der Chemie, versinnlicht durch einfache Experimente". This book was translated into many languages and was published 1908 in the 21st edition. Julius Adolph Stöckhardt was the first to describe and study in detail the effects of exhausts from metal winning plants on trees.

In memory of this presumably most famous representative of chemistry in Chemnitz of the 19th century our Institute of Chemistry  conducts twice a year a competition: Stöckhardt-Wettbewerb open to particularly interested and gifted pupils, in addition it offers continuing education for pupils: Chemieclub "Julius Adolph Stöckhardt.
